SXSW Tweetup

SXSW will be a great opportunity for tweeps from all over to meetup and socialize face to face. It is not our intent to compete with any SXSW events, but rather to just allow tweeps to get to know one another in a relaxed setting.

Time and Date

  • Let's avoid conflicting too much with the major South by Southwest evening events planned although obviously there will be dozens of events during Interactive festival. Please feel to contribute those you feel strongly about not conflicting with. Overlap is acceptable.
  • Possible choices:
    • Saturday 5 -7
    • Saturday 6 - 8
    • Monday 5 - 7
    • Monday 6 -8
    • Alternate time

Location

  • This will be dependent on what's available with all of SXSW's bookings. I'll see if we can get a heads up from the folks over at SXSW Interactive.
  • Some place where the music isn't overpowering the conversation.
  • Possible venues
    • 501Studios - located just across I-35 from the Hilton Downtown and Convention Center. Not a bar establishment, but we could get beer donated definitely. Indoors.
    • Club DeVille - limited indoor seating, outdoor patio. Often used as a SXSW party venue so subject to their scheduling.
    • Scoot Inn - also located across I-35. Beer and wine only.
    • The Ginger Man Austin - in the 4th Street Warehouse district, several blocks east of Convention Center, just a few blocks from Congress Avenue. Extensive beer selection, no liquor. We can probably get 50 cents off pints, and they also would probably provide some ploughman's lunches.
    • Elks Lodge - Full bar, smoking allowed. Private club but members can bring guests so we would just need to create a RSVP so we'll know who our guests are! Only disadvantage is that it is off of Barton Springs, so folks would have to drive, shuttle, or take a taxi for a few dollars.
    • Rio Rita Cafe y Cantina - Beer, wine and liquor, and also food and coffee. There's definitely WiFi and an outdoor patio, with a few intimate couch settings indoors and tables in the front room. About 5 blocks east of I-35. Snax is leaning strongly towards this!

Reminder: The Austin Convention Center (ACC) is located just west of I-35 and between Cesar Chavez and 4th Street. Most events are held in the Warehouse District (west of Congress Avenue, on or near 4th street), 6th street, or on the Red River district (Red River is just east of ACC and west of I-35) between 6th and 10th street).

Exercise caution anytime you are walking on the downtown streets during SXSW, but take a couple extra precautions when walking east of I-35. Just don't walk alone, or take a cab.
